This role plugs into an outsourced accounting and finance team that combines strategic finance, technology, and metrics to deliver greater financial clarity for growing e-commerce businesses.
Working closely with Controllers, the Staff Accountant owns end-to-end accounting for e-commerce clients, reconciling high-volume transactions across sales channels, payment processors, banks, and QuickBooks Online while managing recurring accounting workflows across platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce.

Responsibilities
Own day-to-day accounting for e-commerce clients concurrently, including AP, AR, transaction posting, and account maintenance.
Manage and reconcile e-commerce sales activity across Shopify, BigCommerce, and similar platforms, ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in QuickBooks Online.
Reconcile payment processors, merchant accounts, bank accounts, and credit cards, identifying and resolving discrepancies across high-volume transactions.
Assist with month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and accurate categorization of e-commerce activity.
Support accounting for sales, refunds, discounts, fees, chargebacks, shipping, and other e-commerce transactions.
Process payroll and prepare recurring and ad-hoc financial reports for clients, Controllers, and other stakeholders.
Execute established accounting workflows while identifying opportunities to improve e-commerce integrations, automation, and reconciliation processes.
Maintain accurate and organized accounting records while proactively executing daily, weekly, and monthly task lists without requiring reminders.
Communicate quickly and professionally with Controllers, clients, and internal stakeholders through Slack, Asana, and email.
Support Controllers with client-specific projects, data entry, financial cleanups, and other short-term accounting initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, with meaningful hands-on experience supporting e-commerce businesses (must-have).
Hands-on accounting experience with Shopify, BigCommerce, or comparable e-commerce platforms (must-have).
3+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or similar role within a private business or outsourced accounting environment (must-have).
2+ years managing multiple clients simultaneously, with the ability to successfully handle 6-10 client accounts at once (must-have).
3+ years of QuickBooks Online experience, including reconciliations and month-end accounting (must-have).
Strong understanding of e-commerce transaction flows, including sales, refunds, processor fees, chargebacks, payouts, and reconciliations (must-have).
Proficient in Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, Excel, and cloud-based accounting systems, with the ability to quickly learn new tools.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accurate, especially when managing high-volume transactions across multiple clients.
Strong communication and remote-work skills, with comfort using AI tools within accounting workflows.
Preferred: Accounting-related degree, QuickBooks Online certification, audit experience, e-commerce/payment platform familiarity, and interest in a long-term team fit.
